Orthodoxy and Current Issues

At HIWP, we believe that a relevant Orthodoxy is one that seeks serious engagement with important issues of the day. These include women’s ritual participation and spiritual leadership, challenges facing LGBTQ individuals in the Jewish community, contemporary Israel, and more. Some examples of this commitment are:

• Rabbi’s drashot on current issues
• A strong women’s focus in programming and roles
• Visiting scholars speaking on thought-provoking topics
• Israel Action Committee involvement with the other synagogues of White Plains, across denominational lines
• Rabbi’s leadership roles within Yeshivat Chovevei Torah and the International Rabbinic Fellowship, as well as within Yeshiva University and the Rabbinical Council of America
